College Football News Roundup Vol. 1

Two big transfer quarterbacks have found their home this month. D’Eriq King went from Houston to Miami and Jamie Newman made the jump from Wake Forest to Georgia to replace Jake Fromm. The King move doesn’t make sense to me. He is too dynamic of a player to go to a team that is not going to compete. I would have preferred to see him at Oregon. The Newman move, however, is great. He is a good quarterback and will give the Dawgs a shot at a natty.

Trouble for the Champs

The LSU Tigers have faced a mass exodus upon winning the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. They have lost both coordinators, Dave Aranda is the new head coach at Baylor and Joe Brady is the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, as well as nine early entries to the 2020 NFL Draft. This is all on top of Joe Burrow and four other key seniors exhausting their eligibility. The preseason win totals for the Tigers will be interesting for those that invest in futures. LSU currently has the fourth-best odds to win the title again so there may be a lot of value on the under for their win total.

Recruiting News

Some notable news in the recruiting world with national signing day right around the corner. 247 sports, the authority on recruiting, has updated their top247 and their composite rankings. After the update, Alabama has passed Clemson for the #1 recruiting class in the country by about one point. Georgia is right there with Clemson and in striking distance of capturing a second number one class in the last three years.

Some notable player movement within the rankings includes Alabama quarterback signee Bryce Young moving up to the #2 player in the composite and #1 in the top247. While on the other hand, Clemson quarterback signee D.J. Uiagalelei has moved down to the #10 spot after Young outshined him at the All-American Bowl last month. The biggest riser in the rankings was Alabama OLB signee, Will Anderson. Anderson dominated the top tackle prospects in the country at the All-American Bowl and was rewarded with a 60 spot move up the rankings and earned his fifth star.

Another recruiting nugget is that after de-committing from Oklahoma, top 2021 quarterback Brock Vandagriff has committed to stay at home and play for the Georgia Bulldogs. This is a huge get for Kirby Smart and his staff because between Newman and Vandagriff they should have a quarterback capable of competing for titles for the next four to five seasons.

2020 College Football Favorites in Vegas

A little glimpse into the future here, but Clemson and Ohio State are currently the Vegas co-favorites for the title next year at +250 odds. Followed closely by the Alabama Crimson Tide at +350. Some value is on the board though if you look at teams like Georgia at +1200, Florida at +2000, and Oregon at +4000. I will update this as the lines move throughout the off-season.
