Andrew Berry Named General Manager for Cleveland Browns

The wait is over. Browns fans finally know the landscape of the front office after Andrew Berry was announced as the new General Manager. The hire of Berry will complete the Ivy League front office with Berry (Harvard), DePodesta (Harvard), and new Head Coach Kevin Stefanski (Penn). Berry signed a 5 year deal and now becomes the youngest GM in the NFL.

Before serving the Philadelphia Eagles as the VP of Football Operations, Berry served as the Browns VP of Player Personnel from 2016 to 2018. After 3 seasons, Berry made the move to Philadelphia to become their VP of Football Operations. Now, Berry returns to Cleveland with the task of General Manager, a position proven difficult to maintain in northern Ohio.

Berry may not have been Browns fans first choice. Many wanted new blood and had their hearts set on Vikings Assistant GM, George Paton. The thought was that Patton and Stefanski having worked together in the past, would gel nicely in their new home and bring some much needed alignment among the head coach and GM. However, some argue that Berry brings that same alignment given his prior position with the Browns.

Now We Wait…

With the coach and GM search completed, we are now left with the long off season before seeing the boys in brown take the field next fall. Having been played a fool time and time again, Browns fans (myself included) will be best served waiting for results before declaring Berry and Stefanski as saviors or failures. I’m not much interested in what either of them say they will do. Show me.

Thank you!
